Mastering MidJourney: Best Practices for Generating Website Designs
You probably already know that MidJourney is a powerful AI bot that can generate unique images based on text prompts. But did you know that MidJourney is particularly useful for website designers? It’s excellent at providing visual inspiration and even specific design elements.
Before we get to the 81 MidJourney website design prompts, here are the best practices for getting the best images when writing your prompts.
Understanding MidJourney Prompts
A prompt is a short text phrase that the MidJourney Bot interprets to generate images. The bot breaks down the words and phrases in a prompt into smaller pieces, called tokens, which it compares to its training data to generate a new unique image.
A well-crafted prompt is essential to producing high-quality, creative images. Here’s what to include in your MidJourney website design prompts:
- Define the user interface you want to make (webpage, app, banner, etc.)
- Describe the style (flat design, 3d, etc.)
- List colors or themes
- Request specific design elements
- Add any well-known designer names that you want to emulate
- Eliminate any elements you don’t want in your designs (
--no) - Specify the aspect ratio (
--ar) - Add other parameters (if desired)
When writing MidJourney website design prompts, keep these principles in mind:
Keep It Simple
The MidJourney Bot works best with simple, short sentences that describe what you want to see. Avoid extra-long lists of requests.
For example, instead of: “Show me a picture of many blooming California poppies, make them bright, vibrant orange, and draw them in an illustrated style with colored pencils,” try: “Bright orange California poppies drawn with colored pencils.”
Be Specific
The more specific your prompt, the more likely you will get the desired image. If you’re looking for a particular type of website design, include that in your prompt.
For example, “Homepage design for a travel blog with a large world map” is more likely to give you a relevant image than just “website design for.”
Avoid Negatives
It’s better to describe what you want instead of what you don’t want. If you ask for a party with “no cake,” your image will probably include a cake.
Try advance prompting using the– no parameter to ensure an object or element is not in the final image. In this case, that would like –no cake towards the end of your prompt text.
Experiment and Refine
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different prompts and see what results you get! If the first image isn’t what you hoped for, try tweaking your prompt and generating a new one (reroll). Remember, each word in your prompt influences the final image, so even small changes can make a big difference.
The more experience you get with MidJourney prompting, the easier it’ll be to tell the bot what you have in mind in a way that it understands. Practice makes perfect!
While generating website design prompts in MidJourney, I noticed that the bot prefers darker color schemes and large header images. Get creative with your prompts to change the bot’s default preferences unless that’s what you want!

If there’s a specific art style or color scheme you want, add it to the text prompt. For example:
